This follows initial findings which showed that the temperature of ice at its foot is warmer than expected given the local air temperature🏔️ pic.twitter.com/3V2vuApxJP
If the theory proves correct, it would suggest that the glaciers in the Himalayas are melting faster than expected due to rising air temperatures and intense solar radiation.

Positioning report: August 2024
We have commissioned independent monthly reports from Metricomm to measure the impact of our media relations work and provide insights into how online coverage is affecting our position and reputation.
Each monthly report captures online media coverage most likely to have been seen – and the size of audience most likely to have engaged with it.

Workstream summary
Patients suffering from chronic pain in the face, mouth or jaw can download a free self-help guide proven to benefit them in managing their condition. Dr Vishal Aggarwal (School of Dentistry), led on the development of the guide.
Lauren Ballinger in the External Comms and Campaign team led on the comms plan for promoting the guide. A two-year workstream included multiple approaches to news outlets and sourcing an exceptional case study.
Highlighting this work clearly supports the University’s focus on health inequalities and the work researchers at Leeds are doing to help pre-empt health issues before individuals need to access medical support – therefore contributing to a sustainable health workforce.
The initial coverage included a feature on BBC Look North, BBC News and BBC Leeds Radio. A week later BBC Breakfast featured the BBC Look North piece on their morning programme and had general dental practitioner Dr Trishala Lakhani (no connection to Leeds) on the sofa to discuss teeth grinding – her commentary further supported and underlined the suggestions in the self-help guide.
As a result of the coverage, the webpage containing the toolkit has been viewed +24,000 times and +1,900 people have requested a download of the guide from the University of Leeds licencing platform (as of 30/09/2024). Dentists and dental practitioners have also contacted project lead Dr Aggarwal directly, expressing interest in including the guide in their practice. Dr Aggarwal is now working with the Commercialisation team following the interest from the public to explore potential options for commercialisation.
